Discrete Networked Dynamic Systems Excerpt :

Discrete Networked Dynamic Systems: Analysis and Performance provides a high-level treatment of a general class of linear discrete-time dynamic systems interconnected over an information network, exchanging relative state measurements or output measurements. It presents a systematic analysis of the material and provides an account to the math development in a unified way. The topics in this book are structured along four dimensions: Agent, Environment, Interaction, and Organization, while keeping global (system-centered) and local (agent-centered) viewpoints. The focus is on the wide-sense consensus problem in discrete networked dynamic systems. The authors rely heavily on algebraic graph theory and topology to derive their results. It is known that graphs play an important role in the analysis of interactions between multiagent/distributed systems. Graph-theoretic analysis provides insight into how topological interactions play a role in achieving coordination among agents. Numerous types of graphs exist in the literature, depending on the edge set of G. A simple graph has no self-loop or edges. Complete graphs are simple graphs with an edge connecting any pair of vertices. The vertex set in a bipartite graph can be partitioned into disjoint non-empty vertex sets, whereby there is an edge connecting every vertex in one set to every vertex in the other set. Random graphs have fixed vertex sets, but the edge set exhibits stochastic behavior modeled by probability functions. Much of the studies in coordination control are based on deterministic/fixed graphs, switching graphs, and random graphs. This book addresses advanced analytical tools for characterization control, estimation and design of networked dynamic systems over fixed, probabilistic and time-varying graphs Provides coherent results on adopting a set-theoretic framework for critically examining problems of the analysis, performance and design of discrete distributed systems over graphs Deals with both homog

Control Theory of Digitally Networked Dynamic Systems Excerpt :

The book gives an introduction to networked control systems and describes new modeling paradigms, analysis methods for event-driven, digitally networked systems, and design methods for distributed estimation and control. Networked model predictive control is developed as a means to tolerate time delays and packet loss brought about by the communication network. In event-based control the traditional periodic sampling is replaced by state-dependent triggering schemes. Novel methods for multi-agent systems ensure complete or clustered synchrony of agents with identical or with individual dynamics. The book includes numerous references to the most recent literature. Many methods are illustrated by numerical examples or experimental results.

Recent Advances in Control and Filtering of Dynamic Systems with Constrained Signals Excerpt :

This book introduces the principle theories and applications of control and filtering problems to address emerging hot topics in feedback systems. With the development of IT technology at the core of the 4th industrial revolution, dynamic systems are becoming more sophisticated, networked, and advanced to achieve even better performance. However, this evolutionary advance in dynamic systems also leads to unavoidable constraints. In particular, such elements in control systems involve uncertainties, communication/transmission delays, external noise, sensor faults and failures, data packet dropouts, sampling and quantization errors, and switching phenomena, which have serious effects on the system’s stability and performance. This book discusses how to deal with such constraints to guarantee the system’s design objectives, focusing on real-world dynamical systems such as Markovian jump systems, networked control systems, neural networks, and complex networks, which have recently excited considerable attention. It also provides a number of practical examples to show the applicability of the presented methods and techniques. This book is of interest to graduate students, researchers and professors, as well as R&D engineers involved in control theory and applications looking to analyze dynamical systems with constraints and to synthesize various types of corresponding controllers and filters for optimal performance of feedback systems.

Fault Detection Supervision and Safety of Technical Processes 2006 Excerpt :

The safe and reliable operation of technical systems is of great significance for the protection of human life and health, the environment, and of the vested economic value. The correct functioning of those systems has a profound impact also on production cost and product quality. The early detection of faults is critical in avoiding performance degradation and damage to the machinery or human life. Accurate diagnosis then helps to make the right decisions on emergency actions and repairs. Fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) has developed into a major area of research, at the intersection of systems and control engineering, artificial intelligence, applied mathematics and statistics, and such application fields as chemical, electrical, mechanical and aerospace engineering. IFAC has recognized the significance of FDD by launching a triennial symposium series dedicated to the subject. The SAFEPROCESS Symposium is organized every three years since the first symposium held in Baden-Baden in 1991. SAFEPROCESS 2006, the 6th IFAC Symposium on Fault Detection, Supervision and Safety of Technical Processes was held in Beijing, PR China. A Quadratic Constraint Approach to Model Predictive Control of Interconnected Systems Excerpt :

This book focuses on the stabilization and model predictive control of interconnected systems with mixed connection configurations. It introduces the concept of dissipation-based quadratic constraint for developing attractivity assurance methods for interconnected systems. In order to develop these methods, distributed and decentralized architectures are employed, whereby the communication between subsystems is fully connected, partially connected, or completely disconnected. Given that the control inputs are entirely or partially decoupled between subsystems and no additional constraints are imposed on the interactive variables beyond the coupling constraint itself, the proposed approaches can be used with various types of systems and applications. Further, the book describes how the effects of coupling delays and data losses in device networks are resolved. From a practical perspective, the innovations presented are of benefit in applications in a broad range of fields, including the process and manufacturing industries, networked robotics, and network-centric systems such as chemical process systems, power systems, telecommunication networks, transportation networks, and, no less importantly, supply chain automation.

Distributed Energy Resources Management 2018 Excerpt :

The Special Issue Distributed Energy Resources Management 2018 includes 13 papers, and is a continuation of the Special Issue Distributed Energy Resources Management. The success of the previous edition shows the unquestionable relevance of distributed energy resources in the operation of power and energy systems at both the distribution level and at the wider power system level. Improving the management of distributed energy resources makes it possible to accommodate the higher penetration of intermittent distributed generation and electric vehicle charging. Demand response programs, namely the ones with a distributed nature, allow the consumers to contribute to the increased system efficiency while receiving benefits. This book addresses the management of distributed energy resources, with a focus on methods and techniques to achieve an optimized operation, in order to aggregate the resources namely in the scope of virtual power players and other types of aggregators, and to remunerate them. The integration of distributed resources in electricity markets is also addressed as an enabler for their increased and efficient use.
