Circular Knitting Handbook Excerpt :

A Step-By-Step Guide to Learn How to Knit Beautiful Pieces in the Round Can you knit flat? If so, then you can also knit in the round! There is no big mystery to it, and this book will teach you how to do it. Knitting in the round creates a seamless circular fabric and opens up a world of possibilities for crafts such as hats, sweaters, cowls, and socks. Knitting in the round, often known as circular knitting, produces a seamless tube such as in socks, sweaters, and hats. When you work in the round, you'd first cast on a number of stitches, then join the first and last cast-on stitches to continue knitting; the knitting spirally progresses in rounds (like the rows in flat knitting). Circular knitting has numerous benefits. The fabric's weight is uniformly distributed on the needles, reducing stress on the arms and wrists. Purling is not necessary in stockinette stitch, which is frequently seen as one of the huge benefits of circular knitting. The creation of garments like sweaters is also made easier because knitting in the round nearly completely removes the finishing processes of sewing the sweater together. Although double-pointed needles (DPNs) can be used to knit in the round, however, starting with a circular needle is advised because it is easier to use. You will also have to use a bunch of stitches when knitting in the round such that the stitches span the complete circumference of the circular needle. You will rapidly master knitting in the round with a circular needle if you practice consistently with it. There are various techniques, tips, tools, and troubleshooting tricks you must be familiar with, which are vital for your success in circular knitting, and that's what this book aims to help you achieve. Below are snippets of what you will learn; 1. Tools and accessories of circular knitting plus pointers to make the right choice 2. Important knitting terms and abbreviations 3. Circular knitting tips and techniques such as knitting jogless stripes, knitti

Handbook of Sustainable Textile Production Excerpt :

Textile products are produced, distributed, sold and used worldwide. A quantitative assessment of sustainability in the textile manufacturing chain is therefore extremely important. The Handbook of sustainable textile production is a compilation of technical, economical, and environmental data from the various processes in this chain. This authoritative reference work provides a detailed study of the sustainable development of textiles. The book opens with an introduction to the topic. Chapters define the principles of sustainability and its use in legislation and industry before going on to investigate the impact of textiles throughout the supply chain, starting with the raw fibre through to fabric production, consumption and disposal. Textile process technology and methods for specifying quality and functions in textile products in order to reduce textile waste and improve sustainability are also examined. A series of Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) carried out in the European textile industry are investigated. These studies comprise a range of processes from cotton growing, spinning and weaving to the recycling of textiles. The book concludes with a discussion on sustainable textiles from a product development and marketing perspective. With an internationally recognised expert author, the Handbook of sustainable textile production is a valuable reference tool for academics and students as well as for companies across the textile supply chain concerned with developing a sustainable environment, from fibre manufactures and designers to regulatory bodies. The CEO Handbook Innovations in Machinery Excerpt :

The CEO Handbook to cover the innovations and new developments in the textile machinery. This feature shall be a voice through which the machinery companies can narrate their story of innovations. They can present their innovative machineries and new development to the textile leaders through the medium of this print feature that will be circulated to CEOs and top decision makers of textile companies within India and South East Asia. This feature will not only render visibility to their innovations but also act as a positive catalyst of success. In today’s world, textile manufacturers need to keep upgrading their machineries to stay competitive. In fact, it is the latest machinery that drives the growth of the textile and garment industry by providing efficiency and optimisation in production. To meet customers’ demands and needs, global leaders in textile machineries strive hard to come up with innovative and more efficient textile machines. The newer machines are intelligently designed to give maximum quality and optimum economic efficiency with outstanding features. The trends in shipments of machineries give an indication of which machineries are in demand. Shipments of flat-knitting machines rose by 52 per cent, while deliveries of shuttle-less looms increased by 14 per cent year-on-year in 2015, according to the 38th annual International Textile Machinery Shipment Statistics (ITMSS) released by the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF). On the other hand, shipments in some textile machinery segments experienced declines in 2015. Deliveries of new short-staple spindles fell by nearly 8 per cent from 2014 to 2015. Shipped long-staple spindles and open-end rotors decreased by 61 per cent and 6 per cent, respectively. The number of shipped draw texturing spindles fell by 26 per cent and shipments for new circular knitting machines by 6 per cent year-on-year. However, 2015 was a very good year for the segment of electronic flat knitting machines
