More than half of the chapters have been remodeled and completed as the result of technical improvements and recently acquired clinical data. During these two years, the number of coronary pressure measurements performed worldwide both during diagnostic and interventional procedures has increased almost exponentially. Most of the initial problems associated with this new approach have been overcome. Many colleagues have explored new research avenues and in many catheterization laboratories the method has matured from a research toy to a clinical tool. The analytical study described in this report examines changes in the useful frequency response of short pressure probes resulting from variations in the viscous damping within the probe tube. The study is based on the use of the Bergh and Tijdeman recursion formula, which was modified to allow the addition of arbitrary amounts of viscous loss in any tube section. Results show that the useful response range can be increased with damping but is dependent on the operating temperature and pressure levels. At 300 K, only a 15-percent variation in average pressure is allowable if the useful response is to be a factor of three higher than that of an undamped probe. Zum anderen werden dynamische Simulationen mit einem homogenen („mixture flow“) und einem heterogenen („two-fluid“) Strömungsmodell durchgeführt und miteinander und mit den Messdaten verglichen. Die experimentellen und numerischen Ergebnisse lassen sich schließlich in dimensionslosen Stabilitätskarten zusammenfassen, welche die Betriebsgrenzen beschreiben, bei denen Dichtewellenoszillationen in thermohydraulisch ähnlichen Systemen auftreten können.
