Reconfigurable Computing Book Description :

As the complexity of modern embedded systems increases, it becomes less practical to design monolithic processing platforms. As a result, reconfigurable computing is being adopted widely for more flexible design. Reconfigurable Computers offer the spatial parallelism and fine-grained customizability of application-specific circuits with the postfabrication programmability of software. To make the most of this unique combination of performance and flexibility, designers need to be aware of both hardware and software issues. FPGA users must think not only about the gates needed to perform a computation but also about the software flow that supports the design process. The goal of this book is to help designers become comfortable with these issues, and thus be able to exploit the vast opportunities possible with reconfigurable logic.

Reconfigurable and Adaptive Computing Book Description :

Reconfigurable computing techniques and adaptive systems are some of the most promising architectures for microprocessors. Reconfigurable and Adaptive Computing: Theory and Applications explores the latest research activities on hardware architecture for reconfigurable and adaptive computing systems. The first section of the book covers reconfigurable systems. The book presents a software and hardware codesign flow for coarse-grained systems-on-chip, a video watermarking algorithm for the H.264 standard, a solution for regular expressions matching systems, and a novel field programmable gate array (FPGA)-based acceleration solution with MapReduce framework on multiple hardware accelerators. The second section discusses network-on-chip, including an implementation of a multiprocessor system-on-chip platform with shared memory access, end-to-end quality-of-service metrics modeling based on a multi-application environment in network-on-chip, and a 3D ant colony routing (3D-ACR) for network-on-chip with three different 3D topologies. The final section addresses the methodology of system codesign. The book introduces a new software–hardware codesign flow for embedded systems that models both processors and intellectual property cores as services. It also proposes an efficient algorithm for dependent task software–hardware codesign with the greedy partitioning and insert scheduling method (GPISM) by task graph.

Reconfigurable Computing Architectures and Applications Book Description :

1 The International Workshop on Recon?gurable Computing (ARC) started in 2005 in Algarve, Portugal. The major motivation was to create an event where on-going research e?orts as well as more elaborated, interesting and hi- quality work on applied recon?gurable computing could be presented and d- cussed. Over the last couple of years recon?gurable computing has become a we- known and established research area producing interesting as well as important results in both general and embedded computing systems. It is also getting more and more interest from industry which is attracted by the (design and development) ?exibility as well as the performance improvements that can be expected from this technology. As recon?gurablecomputing has blurred the gap between software and hardware, some even speak of a radical new programming paradigm opening a new realm of unseen applications and opportunities. The logo of the ARC workshop is the Nonius, a measurement instrument used in the Portuguese period of discoveries that was invented by Pedro Nunes, a Portuguesemathematician. As the logo suggests, the main motto of ARC is to help to navigate the world of recon?gurable computing. Driven by this motto, we hope ARC contributes to solid advances on recon?gurable computing.

Field Programmable Logic and Applications The Roadmap to Reconfigurable Computing Book Description :

This book is the proceedings volume of the 10th International Conference on Field Programmable Logic and its Applications (FPL), held August 27 30, 2000 in Villach, Austria, which covered areas like reconfigurable logic (RL), reconfigurable computing (RC), and its applications, and all other aspects. Its subtitle "The Roadmap to Reconfigurable Computing" reminds us, that we are currently witnessing the runaway of a breakthrough. The annual FPL series is the eldest international conference in the world covering configware and all its aspects. It was founded 1991 at Oxford University (UK) and is 2 years older than its two most important competitors usually taking place at Monterey and Napa. FPL has been held at Oxford, Vienna, Prague, Darmstadt, London, Tallinn, and Glasgow (also see: http://www. fpl. uni kl. de/FPL/). The New Case for Reconfigurable Platforms: Converging Media. Indicated by palmtops, smart mobile phones, many other portables, and consumer electronics, media such as voice, sound, video, TV, wireless, cable, telephone, and Internet continue to converge. This creates new opportunities and even necessities for reconfigurable platform usage. The new converged media require high volume, flexible, multi purpose, multi standard, low power products adaptable to support evolving standards, emerging new standards, field upgrades, bug fixes, and, to meet the needs of a growing number of different kinds of services offered to zillions of individual subscribers preferring different media mixes.

Reconfigurable Computing Architectures Tools and Applications Book Description :

Recon?gurable computing (RC) technologies o?er the promise of substantial performance gains over traditional architectures by customizing, sometimes at run-time, the topology of the underlying architecture to match the speci?c needs of a given application. Contemporary con?gurable architectures allow for the de?nition of architectures with functional and storage units that match the s- ci?c needs of a given computation, in terms of function, bit-width and control structures. Compared to standard microprocessor architectures, advantages are possible in terms of power consumption on a broad range of di?erent application ?elds. Moreover, the ?exibility enabled by recon?guration is also seen as a basic technique for overcoming transient failures in emerging device structures. Techniques for achieving recon?gurable systems are numerous and require the joint development of recon?gurable hardware systems to support the dynamic behavior, e.g., suitable programming models, tools and languages, to support the recon?guration process during run-time as well as during design-time. This includes veri?cation techniques that can demonstrate formally correct recon?- ration sequences at each stage. While there are many problems, the existence and development of technologies such as recent multi- and many-core processor arc- tectures, dynamically recon?gurable and multi-grain computing architectures, as well as application-speci?c processors suggest that there is a very strong need for adaptive and recon?gurable systems.

New Algorithms Architectures and Applications for Reconfigurable Computing Book Description :

New Algorithms, Architectures and Applications for Reconfigurable Computing consists of a collection of contributions from the authors of some of the best papers from the Field Programmable Logic conference (FPL’03) and the Design and Test Europe conference (DATE’03). In all, seventy-nine authors, from research teams from all over the world, were invited to present their latest research in the extended format permitted by this special volume. The result is a valuable book that is a unique record of the state of the art in research into field programmable logic and reconfigurable computing. The contributions are organized into twenty-four chapters and are grouped into three main categories: architectures, tools and applications. Within these three broad areas the most strongly represented themes are coarse-grained architectures; dynamically reconfigurable and multi-context architectures; tools for coarse-grained and reconfigurable architectures; networking, security and encryption applications. Field programmable logic and reconfigurable computing are exciting research disciplines that span the traditional boundaries of electronic engineering and computer science. When the skills of both research communities are combined to address the challenges of a single research discipline they serve as a catalyst for innovative research. The work reported in the chapters of this book captures that spirit of that innovation.
