And problem sections are also added. In the centre are the connections between particle physics and cosmology: The standard model, some basic implications of quantum field theory and the questions of structure formation. Special emphasis is given to the observed anisotropies of the cosmic microwave background and the consequences drawn for cosmology and for the structure formation models. The Large Scale Structure of the Universe Excerpt :

The significance of the present IAU symposium, "The Large Scale Structure of the Universe", fortunately requires no elaboration by the editors. The quality of the wide range of observational and theoretical astrophysics contained in this volume speaks for itself. The published version of the proceedings contains all the contributions presented at the symposium with the exception of the introductory lecture by V. A. Ambartsumian. Contributed papers, short contributions and discussions have been included according to the recommendations of the IAU. Many people contributed to the success of the symposium. First of all, thanks are due to the USSR Academy of Sciences and to the Estonian Academy of Sciences for sponsoring this symposium in Tallinn. The efforts of Academician K. Rebane, President of the Estonian Academy of Sciences, are particularly appreciated. The astronomical hosts of the symposium were the members of the W. Struve Astrophysical Observatory of Tartu who made outstanding efforts to lavish participants with Estonian hospitality which was greatly appreciated and enjoyed by them and their guests. The members of the Scientific and Local Organising Committees are listed below and we thank all of them for their contributions which were central to the success of the symposium. In addition are listed members of the Technical Organising Committee who were responsible for all details of the organisation and whose vigilance ensured that all aspects of the symposium ran smoothly and efficiently. Their contributions are all gratefully acknowledged.

  • Genre: Science

Our Universe Excerpt :

Did God create life, or did the world spontaneously appear? Drawing on meticulous research into the scientific and religious realms, Our Universe is a detailed study of the origin of the universe, life on Earth, and the destiny of mankind. Biophysics professor Faiz M. Khan combines both faith and science to present a balanced overview of a highly controversial topic. Khan explores the scientific analysis of creation with knowledge-based dialogue about the most modern scientific thought on the beginnings of the universe, cosmic evolution, and biologic evolution; and he contrasts these with the creationist view held by the world's major religions. Concise and compelling, Our Universe provides an unbiased and comprehensive view of some of philosophy's most debated topics and serves as a thoughtful springboard for further discussion. Khan's discourse also reflects one man's painstaking quest for an answer to a fundamental question at the very core of our existence.

You Are the Universe Excerpt :

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Deepak Chopra joins forces with leading physicist Menas Kafatos to explore some of the most important and baffling questions about our place in the world. "A riveting and absolutely fascinating adventure that will blow your mind wide open!" —Dr. Rudolph E. Tanzi What happens when modern science reaches a crucial turning point that challenges everything we know about reality? In this brilliant, timely, and practical work, Chopra and Kafatos tell us that we've reached just such a point. In the coming era, the universe will be completely redefined as a "human universe" radically unlike the cold, empty void where human life is barely a speck in the cosmos. You Are the Universe literally means what it says--each of us is a co-creator of reality extending to the vastest reaches of time and space. This seemingly impossible proposition follows from the current state of science, where outside the public eye, some key mysteries cannot be solved, even though they are the very issues that define reality itself: • What Came Before the Big Bang? • Why Does the Universe Fit Together So Perfectly? • Where Did Time Come From? • What Is the Universe Made Of? • Is the Quantum World Linked to Everyday Life? • Do We Live in a Conscious Universe? • How Did Life First Begin? “The shift into a new paradigm is happening,” the authors write. “The answers offered in this book are not our invention or eccentric flights of fancy. All of us live in a participatory universe. Once you decide that you want to participate fully with mind, body, and soul, the paradigm shift becomes personal. The reality you inhabit will be yours either to embrace or to change.” What these two great minds offer is a bold, new understanding of who we are and how we can transform the world for the better while reaching our greatest potential.

  • ISBN 10 : 9781449067939

Model of the Universe Excerpt :

This Model of the Universe concludes the universe to be a spherical region within a much larger region of primordial matter. Primordial Matter is determined to be an endless array of positroniums; matter (+) and antimatter (-) particles, stabilized in and by an equally spaced (.6 cm) hexahedron arrangement. When positron + and electron - particles come in contact they annihilate into photons; when photon concentrations become adequate, they precipitate into corporeal matter of the universe. The initial annihilation started a chain reaction from a single + & - pair which upset the positronium rotation synchronization. Photons from annihilations propagate in all directions and produce more continuing chain reaction annihilations. Outward flowing photon concentrations coalesce and precipitate into subatomic particles. Accretions of particles produce the objects and matter of the universe. The continuing process is called the deflagration wave, because a simple understandable analogy relates to a flame propagating through dry grass: matter is not created nor destroyed; it is only converted from one form of matter into another. All processes in this Model have been proven, and verified; all are consistent with the Laws of Physics.

Life the Universe and Everything Excerpt :

No philosophical idea, no matter how small, can live alone. Ideas always gain their force, power, and life from their surroundings - their ecosystem. The ecosystem of ideas defended in this book comes from the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle and his medieval interpreter, Thomas Aquinas. The ongoing relevance of their philosophical thought to twenty-first century issues is opened up in fascinating ways in this book. Life, the Universe, and Everything is the product of thirty years of teaching introductory courses in philosophy. Assuming no prior background, it only requires of readers an enquiring mind and a willingness to think carefully. An ideal guide to the big questions we face.
